Day Care Setup

Physical Environment & Daycare Setup

In the part of the family day care residence where education and care are being provided the furniture and equipment must be safe, clean and in good repair. Educator must:

Ensure indoor spaces are well ventilated with enough natural light and a temperature is maintained that ensures the safety, health and wellbeing of children

Ensure all outdoor space used by children is enclosed by a fence or barrier that is of a height and design that prevents children of preschool age or under from going through, over or under

Ensure any glassed area accessible to children that is of or below the height above floor level must be glazed with safety glass or protected from shattering if broken

Provide appropriate age furniture and equipment for indoor and outdoor areas where they are organised in safe layouts and they are stable, maintained and meets safety standards

Provide experiences where children can explore, solve problems, create, construct and engage in critical thinking

Ensure sustainable practice where natural and recycled materials can be used in different ways

Ensure inclusion of all children where specific resources and equipment will be provided for the children with special needs

Provide adequate shade in the outdoor area

Provide hygiene and safe handwashing, nappy changing, toileting, eating, and sleeping facilities for the children
